Since the bicycles are going to be given to mostly impoverished residents, it is expected that they will be making more income from the use of bicycles and therefore able to pay 4000 shillings per month. The small membership fee also acts as a motivation for the peasant farmers to put the bicycle to economic use, to plan ahead, cooperate with their neighbors, and to be accountable to each other as well as BAP.

This activity encourages interdependence and trust-building as well as increased economic activity in the region. A BAP employee will live within the community. His role will be to collect the bicycle recipients’ monthly payments, receive new applications and help with bicycle maintenance.
